Survival Strategies for Active Shooter Events

This presentation will demonstrate strategies based upon real life experiences of past events. This will be accomplished through hands-on activities, practice and collaboration. Participants will gain an understanding of how to utilize best practices for developing a protection plan for classrooms and work areas.
Jerry McConnell is the Director of Public Safety at Moore Norman Technology Center. He oversees two campuses is responsible for environmental health and safety, campus security, transportation and emergency operations. He is a Lieutenant with the McClain County Sheriff’s Office and member of the Tactical Entry Team. Jerry also holds a dual commission with the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office in Norman, OK.
Jerry provides public emergency response training, and active shooter training to K-12 schools, State Department of Career Technology Centers, Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administration and other educational groups and forums. He’s a member of the Oklahoma Commission on School Security, CRASE and A.L.I.C.E. approved instructor, and holds numerous Homeland Security certifications.
Jerry has a Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree, University of Oklahoma and Master of Education Administration, Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Jerry holds an Oklahoma Superintendents Certification and a Secondary Principals Certificate and active member of ACTE.
