ASHRAE 52.2 & 170 Training

The purpose of this training is to discuss in detail how MERV (minimum efficiency reporting value) Ratings are established (ASHRAE 52.2). We will go into detail about the different types of Engineering practices used to achieve MERV ratings, and what constitutes a non-degrading. This conversation will then lead into training on the September 2021 updates to the ASHRAE 170 requirements, specifically the new air filtration requirements. The ASHRAE 170 filter requirements shifts the focus to a space-by-space-based approach, offering flexibility for users of the standard to apply the filtration selections that most rationally meets their goals for first, operational and energy costs.

Speaker:          Keaton Lockhart - Camfil USA Inc.

Transforming Care Through Innovation and Design Simulation

This presentation will review a Case Study of a Critical Access Hospital and introduce unique design methodology for developing optimal design solutions.  The outcomes from implementing this method ultimately led to a design for more effective internal processes, quicker response times, and improved patient outcomes that impact higher quality community health.

Because of the growing need for comprehensive care and the decrease in health services in the region, a hospital required a strategic masterplan for the hospital to expand their services.  This hospital needed to develop design solutions that would serve the community and provide a facility that could better recruit and retain quality staff and providers. You’ll learn how design simulations and departmental mock-ups were crucial for gaining invaluable insight and information through a process that enlisted active participation from staff and administration and resulted in staff driven design solutions.

Speaker:  Heather Taylor - HFG Architecture

For over a decade Heather Taylor has been exclusively focused on healthcare design. Her passion for healthcare has continued through research partnerships with Johns Hopkins and Clemson Universities and a Master of Applied Science in Patient Safety and Healthcare Quality.  Additional research studies have included staff workflow, infection control, efficiency during emergencies, preventative strategies for uninterrupted care, and smart prevention in healthcare design.  Because of her distinct knowledge and understanding, Heather has become a leading specialist in healthcare design.
